GLC

GLC came out of Houston in the early 1990s, with Bun B and DJ Scarface at the center. Their track 'H Town' became a local anthem that eventually got attention outside Texas. The song's straightforward hook and Bun B's delivery gave it weight.

They put out albums like 'Fat Pat's Funeral' in 1999, which dealt directly with loss in their circle. Later records included 'Sittin' on Chrome' and 'Trill O.G.', the latter featuring production work from J Dilla. Other songs in their catalog include 'Day I Die' and 'Tabernacle'.

DJ Screw's death in 1997 hit the Houston scene hard, and GLC's music sometimes reflected that grief. Their lyrics drew criticism at times for being explicit, but they generally framed it as reporting from their own streets rather than glorification.
