Glei Bartasson formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1999, started by brothers Glei and Fabrício Bartasson. Their debut hit "Agora Eu Quero é Divertir" caught on quickly with its upbeat samba and pagode rhythms. The song's straightforward celebration of having fun resonated in Bahia's party scene.
They followed with albums like "Samba, Axé e Pagode" in 2001 and a live recording in 2004. Other tracks like "Agora Você Chora" and "Brinquedinho" kept their sound in rotation at festivals and radio. The band's lineup included Glei on vocals, Fabrício on bass, with Neto, Nino, and Robson rounding out the group.
Some critics questioned whether their music encouraged too much revelry, but the band saw it as just reflecting Bahian celebration. They kept releasing albums through the 2000s and into the 2010s, sticking to the festive samba and axé blend that first got people dancing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
