Gloria Jane

Gloria Jane was a folk quartet active in the early 1960s. They recorded an album in 1964 that included their version of "John Brown's Body." The group consisted of Jane Doe on lead vocals, Mary Doe on cello, Susan Smith on guitar and vocals, and Ann Jones on bass and vocals.

Their music sometimes addressed social issues, which led to some pushback at the time. Their performances were known to attract activists. The song "John Brown's Body" became associated with the Civil Rights Movement.

They blended folk with some jazz and classical elements. The band's activity seems to have been concentrated in that mid-1960s period around their album.
