Gloryhammer started in 2009 as a side project for Christopher Bowes, who was already known for his work with the power metal band Alestorm. He put together a group of musicians to tell a story about a Scottish warrior fighting space enemies, which became the band's whole thing. Their first album, Tales from the Kingdom of Fife, came out in 2013.
They've released a few albums since then, each one continuing that fantasy space metal saga. Songs like 'Angus McFife' and 'Hootsforce' give you a good sense of what they do, big, theatrical metal with keyboards and lyrics about cosmic battles. The lineup has changed over time, with different people coming in on guitar, bass, and drums.
In 2015, there was some talk about their behavior at a festival performance, but that's mostly just a footnote. They kept putting out records like Legends from Beyond the Galactic Terrorvortex in 2019 and another one in 2022. It's all very consistent, if you like one Gloryhammer song, you probably know what you're getting with the rest.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
