Go Periscope formed in 2012 as an electronic duo with vocalist and producer Chloe Voss and multi-instrumentalist Mark Nolan. They released their debut EP 'Ephemera' early on, which established their atmospheric, synth-heavy approach. The track 'Beautiful Synthetic' from their second album became their most recognizable piece, built around Voss's airy vocals and Nolan's layered electronic textures.
Their music often mixed synthpop with ambient and experimental touches, avoiding straightforward categorization. Songs like 'Crush Me' and 'Escape The Season' carried that same ethereal quality, while 'Rollin With The Dead' and 'Chick Flick Tears' showed a slightly darker, more driving side to their sound. They faced some criticism for being too experimental or inaccessible, but kept working within their own lane.
After 'Beautiful Synthetic' brought them wider attention, they continued to develop their style without major shifts in direction. Their catalog remains a modest collection of moody electronic pieces that favor atmosphere over pop hooks, anchored by Voss's voice and Nolan's production.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
