God Lives Underwater

God Lives Underwater formed in Massachusetts in 1994 with David Reilly on vocals and guitar, Jeff Turzo on guitar and keyboards, Adam Kary on bass, and David Clauss on drums. Their debut album 'Empty' came out the following year, featuring the title track that became a notable song for them. They put out a few more records like 'Life in the So-Called Space Age' in 1997 and 'Up Off the Floor' in 1999, working with sequencers and synthesizers alongside their rock setup.

Reilly and Turzo left the band around 2002 after that last album together. Kary and Clauss kept the name going with other musicians for later releases, but those early records with the original lineup are what most listeners remember. Songs like '1% (The Long Way Down)' and '23' show their mix of guitar textures and electronic elements.

Their sound had a certain atmospheric quality, with Reilly's vocals often described as haunting over layered instrumentation. They never broke through to massive popularity, but developed a following among people drawn to that kind of moody, experimental alternative rock from the late '90s.
