Godcore formed in Goiânia in 1986, a punk band from Brazil's late 1980s. The original lineup included João Gordo on vocals, Fábio 'Careca' Passos on guitar, Marcelo 'Dedé' Ferreira on bass, and Marcelo 'Suicidal' Dias on drums. Their name suggested a rejection of traditional religion, and their music tackled social issues directly.
Their songs addressed poverty and police brutality, which sometimes led to trouble with authorities. They put out four studio albums between 1987 and 1996, including 'Eu Não Aceito' in 1993. Tracks like 'Aleluia' and 'Bem aventurado' carried their confrontational style.
They developed a heavy, distorted sound that became associated with their message. The band's work resonated with listeners who shared their frustrations about inequality in Brazil at the time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
