Goldman started as a Swedish pop band in Stockholm during the mid-1990s, originally calling themselves Swede. The group included Per Gessle on vocals and songwriting, Mats Persson on guitar and songwriting, and Fredrik Hermansson on drums. They built a following in Sweden with straightforward pop melodies, and their song 'Kisses of Fire' got them to represent Sweden at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.
Their second album, 'Man on the Moon,' included the track 'Closer,' which became a hit outside Sweden. The band kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like 'Us Against the World' in 1997, 'Gold' in 2001, and 'Made in Heaven' in 2006. They faced some accusations about borrowing too much from other songs, but they kept working.
Goldman's catalog is mostly straightforward pop records, 'The Ballad Hits' in 1998, 'Livin' on a Prayer' in 2003, and compilations like 'Greatest Hits' in 2011. They were a three-piece for most of their run, with Gessle and Persson handling the writing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
