Gorefest came out of the Netherlands in the late 1980s, with Jan-Chris de Koeyer on vocals. That kind of thing gave them a certain reputation in the metal underground.
They put out a string of albums that people in the scene paid attention to. 'False' went into darker territory, and 'Erase' had those heavy riffs. Songs like 'Demon Seed' and 'Confessions Of A Serial Killer' were part of that earlier, straightforward death metal sound. The core lineup for a good while was de Koeyer, Frank Hartog on guitar, Boudewijn Bonebakker on bass, and Ed Warby on drums.
Later on, their sound shifted a bit, bringing in some black metal and thrash elements. Albums like 'Soul Survivor' and 'La Muerte' felt more complex, but they didn't lose the aggression. They went through some lineup changes too, with Jeroen Paul Thesseling and Marc Hoogendoorn joining at different points.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
