Gorky Park

Gorky Park formed in Moscow in 1987, a time when rock music still faced official suspicion in the Soviet Union. They played small clubs and underground gatherings, building a following among younger listeners. Their song 'Bang' became their calling card, a hard rock track with enough melodic punch to catch attention beyond their home country.

In 1989, the band performed at a festival in the United States, which helped introduce them to a wider international audience. Their self-titled album found listeners who responded to its blend of rock energy and occasional Russian folk touches. Other tracks like 'Moscow Calling' and 'Stranger' showed their range within that style.

They were led by vocalist Nikolaj Noskov, whose presence gave the band a recognizable focal point. What remains are the songs themselves, which captured a particular moment when Soviet rock bands began reaching outside their borders.
