A Swiss hard rock band that found its voice with Steve Lee and kept going after his tragic death.
For the classic Gotthard sound, 'Let It Rain' and 'Starlight' are the ones. After 2012, 'What I Like' shows how they kept going with Nic Maeder.
Gotthard mattered because they became Switzerland's biggest rock band, with their 1992 debut going platinum and later records like 'G' and 'Homerun' topping charts there. Songs like 'Let It Rain' and 'Starlight' showed Steve Lee's voice giving the band its recognizable sound. After Lee's death in a motorcycle accident, they returned with Nic Maeder on albums like 'Firebirth,' proving they could keep making music.
The band formed in 1990 when guitarist Leo Leoni and bassist Marc Lynn started playing together. They went through two vocalists before finding Steve Lee, who fronted them through most of their career until his death in 2010. In 2012, they came back with new singer Nic Maeder and put out albums including 'Firebirth' and 'Bang!'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
