GQ came out of Detroit in the early 1980s with four vocalists: Keithen Carter, John Langston, Kenny Banks, and Carl Caldwell. They put out their debut album in 1985, which included the song 'I Do Love You.' That track did well on the R&B charts and became the thing people remember them for.
Their sound was smooth R&B with tight harmonies, and they had another single called 'Disco Nights (Rock-freak).' The group went through some lineup changes later on, with Banks and Caldwell leaving toward the end of the 1980s. They kept going as a trio after that.
