Gram formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s around guitarist and vocalist Sérgio Britto and bassist and vocalist Flávio Venturini. They started playing in underground clubs, building a following before releasing their debut album 'Nação Gram' in 1982. That record mixed rock, pop, and reggae influences, and its single 'Você Pode Ir Na Janela' became a hit that brought them national attention.
Their second album 'A Última Sessão de Música' featured more experimental sounds and introspective lyrics. The band's lineup changed at times, with keyboardist Carlos Trilha, drummer Alberto Continentino, and percussionist Téo Ruiz among those who played with them. They also worked with other artists like singer Marisa Monte and rapper MV Bill.
Gram released eight studio albums including 'Apostasia' and 'Clube da Esquina'. Songs like 'Parte de Mim' and 'Seu Troféu' show their range from straightforward pop to more layered arrangements. Their music has remained in circulation, with acoustic versions like 'Voce pode ir na janela(acustico)' appearing alongside the original recordings.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
