Gramm Lou

Gramm Lou was a glam rock band from Los Angeles that formed in the 1980s. They were named after their frontman, who handled lead vocals and guitar alongside members Rick Ratt on lead guitar, Robbin Zumbach on bass, and Rick Leslie on drums. Their music leaned into theatrical rock with a defiant edge, as heard on songs like 'Angel With a Dirty Face' and 'Hangin' On My Hip'.

Their 1985 debut album 'Angel with a Dirty Face' included the title track, which became their best-known song. They followed it with albums like 'Love Kills' in 1986 and 'Fallen Angel' in 1987, maintaining a glam rock sound while occasionally shifting tone, as on the more stripped-down 1989 release 'Stripped'. The band's live shows were known for elaborate costumes and pyrotechnics.

Gramm Lou's style drew both fans and critics during their active years, with some finding their approach too excessive. They released 'Phoenix' in 1991 before fading from the mainstream. While their time in the spotlight was relatively brief, their blend of rock theatrics and anthemic hooks left a noticeable imprint on the glam and hard rock scenes that followed.
