Gramofocas came together in São Paulo in the late 1990s, a collective of musicians mixing punk, ska, and Brazilian sounds. Their 2000 song 'Garota Comunista' caught on with its catchy melody and lyrics about a working-class heroine, becoming something of an anthem in Brazil at the time.
In 2003, they faced legal challenges over what authorities called 'communist propaganda.' The band's core lineup included vocalist Cadu Tenório, guitarist Pedro Regidor, bassist João Carvalho, and drummer Kadu do Violino.
Other songs like 'Get Along Gang' and 'Viva Boris Yeltsin!' show their mix of humor and political commentary. They've worked with artists including Marky Ramone and Brazilian rapper Emicida, and released albums like 'Pra Frente Brasil' in 2003 and 'Esquadrão 71' in 2006.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
