Archive material and source history

The Grapes of Wrath formed in the mid-1980s with brothers Scott and Tom Miller, bassist Kevin Kane, and drummer John Rushen. They signed with Warner Bros. Records and put out their self-titled debut album in 1988. The single 'You May Be Right' from that record got some radio play and helped them find an audience.

They released three more albums through the early 1990s: '27 Forever' in 1990, 'Field Trip' in 1992, and 'September Bowl of Green' in 1994. Scott Miller was the main songwriter and vocalist through the band's run. Their songs like 'A Very Special Day' and 'All The Things I Wasn't' had a straightforward rock feel with lyrics that leaned toward the personal rather than anthemic.

Their 1992 album 'Field Trip' included material that commented on the first Gulf War, which drew some attention at the time. The band's activity tapered off after the mid-1990s.
