Gravity formed in Brooklyn around 2015, with Ethan James on vocals, Alex Hayes on guitar, and Emily Carter on drums. Their debut single "Coma" caught attention that year, leading to a debut album called Ashes to Stars. The band's sound has been described as alternative rock with atmospheric touches, and they've put out several albums since, including Echoes of the Abyss in 2017, The Edge of Infinity in 2019, and Celestial Horizons in 2021.
Their songs often deal with personal themes, with tracks like "Hollow" and "Save Me" following in the vein of "Coma." They've toured fairly widely, playing shows in North America, Europe, and Asia. On stage, they're known for a visual, energetic presentation that connects with their audience.
Beyond the core trio, they've worked with outside musicians like cellist Sarah Jones and producer Tim Hecker, which has added different textures to their records. They continue to write and perform, with songs like "Syntax Error" and "Witness" appearing in their recent setlists.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
