Gregório Barrios formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s around vocalist Rafael Martini and percussionist Marcelo Araújo. They started with a sound that mixed Brazilian rhythms with alternative rock, which some critics initially questioned. Their debut album was named after the song "Dos Almas," which became their most recognizable track.
That song, along with others like "Luna Lunera" and "Mi Dicha Lejana," helped define their approach. They followed up with an album called "Histórias de Amor e Guerra," which continued exploring themes of love and loss. The band's lineup eventually included Thiago Bigode on bass and Bruno Zambelli on keyboards.
They kept working without much dramatic change to their core sound. Their music stayed grounded in those early elements, and they never really chased trends or controversies. The focus remained on the songs themselves rather than any larger narrative about their place in Brazilian music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
