G.R.E.S Feitiço do Rio is a samba school from Rio de Janeiro that formed in 2013. Their samba-enredo songs, written for Rio's annual Carnival parade, explore local culture and history. In 2019, they released 'Do Sagrado ao Profano, Tem Batuque na Pedra do Sal,' which looked at religious and cultural traditions in the city.
Their 2018 song 'Peça É Gente No Tabuleiro da Intendente' and 2020's 'E Agora? Quem Poderá Nos Defender?' continued this approach of using samba to tell stories about Rio. The school has released albums including 'Feitiço do Rio' in 2016 and 'Feitiço de Criação' in 2018.
Some of their members include Rafael dos Santos as mestre de bateria, Fred Camacho as intérprete, and Heloísa Helena as porta-bandeira. Their 2017 track 'É Um Barato o Feitiço do Chacrinha' references Brazilian television personality Chacrinha, showing how their music often connects to broader cultural touchpoints.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
