G.R.E.S.V. Coruja Negra is a samba school that creates music for carnival performances. Their 2021 samba-enredo was called "A Lenda Das Três Princesas - Encantarias," which tells a story about three legendary princesses and their magical powers. They also released "Samba-Enredo 2022 - Yabás, Mães, Mulheres: a Majestade Feminina."
Like many samba schools, they've faced budget constraints when trying to finance the elaborate costumes and production that carnival requires. They've managed to keep going with community support. Their discography includes older titles like "O Canto da Coruja" from 1982 and "A Saga dos Palmares" from 2002.
The school works as a collective of musicians, dancers, and artisans. Mestre Silvério Cruz has served as musical director, and Mestre Seu Jorge has been a vocalist. Their work continues the tradition of using samba to tell stories during carnival season.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
