Grimes is the project of Claire Boucher, who started releasing music in 2010 with the album 'Geidi Primes.' Her work often mixes electronic textures with pop structures, moving from the hazy atmospheres of early records to the sharper production on later albums like 'Art Angels' and 'Miss Anthropocene.' Songs such as 'Kill V. Maim' and 'Flesh Without Blood' show her knack for wrapping dark, futuristic themes in catchy, kinetic arrangements.

Her sound draws from a wide pool of influences, including Enya, Björk, and industrial music, but she processes them into something distinctly her own. The track 'Venus Fly' features Janelle Monáe, one of several collaborations that have dotted her catalog. Grimes handles most of the writing and production herself, with occasional contributions from musicians like Maria Uzor on drums and keyboards.

While her experimental approach has sometimes divided listeners, she has maintained a consistent, self-directed path. The music doesn't aim for easy accessibility, but it has found an audience drawn to its layered synths, ethereal vocals, and themes that play with identity and speculative futures.
