Grinderman

Grinderman was a band formed in 2006 by Nick Cave, who wanted to work outside the more structured approach of his main group, The Bad Seeds. He brought together Warren Ellis on violin and guitar, Martyn Casey on bass, and Jim Sclavunos on drums. They made three studio albums between 2007 and 2012, starting with their self-titled debut and ending with Grinderman 3.

Their sound was raw and abrasive, pulling from garage rock and blues with a punkish intensity. Songs like "Go Tell The Women" and "Depth Charge Ethel" had a primal, driving energy, while "Bellringer Blues" showed their rougher take on traditional forms. Cave's lyrics here were often more direct and confrontational than in his other work.

Live shows were known for being loud and chaotic, matching the records' unfiltered feel. The band didn't last long as a full-time project, but those three albums captured a specific, gritty side of Cave and his collaborators that stood apart from their other output.
