Gringo71 formed in Spain in 1998, with Pau Marcos on vocals and guitar, Dani Garcia on lead guitar, Nacho Marín on bass, and Kiko Guillo on drums. Their 2001 single "14:15" became a breakthrough track that reached mainstream listeners. The band released several albums including "14:15" in 2001, "Bajo mi piel" in 2003, "Los dardos" in 2005, and "Corazón valiente" in 2009.
In 2006, Gringo71 faced allegations of plagiarizing the melody of their song "Te quiero más" from another artist. Pau Marcos also dealt with substance abuse and mental health issues that led to some cancellations and lineup changes. The band kept touring and recording through these challenges.
