Gringos & Troianos formed in the late 1990s with vocalist and guitarist Alexandre Nero, bassist Felipe Gama, and drummer Sérgio Loureiro. Their music mixed rock and pop with Brazilian rhythms like forró, which gave songs like "A Mina e a Moto" and "Nada a Temer" a particular bounce.
In 2001, Nero had a serious accident that paused the band's momentum, but they returned to playing and recording. They put out albums including a self-titled debut, "Alma Brasileira," and "O Bem e o Mal." The group's lineup later expanded to include percussionist Anderson Reis and guitarist Ricardo Vilas.
They worked with artists like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Elba Ramalho at different points. Tracks such as "Sonhos" and "Você" show the band's range, moving from upbeat rock to more reflective pop.
