Grip Inc. formed in 1993 after Chuck Schuldiner's previous band Death ended. Schuldiner brought together drummer Dave Lombardo from Slayer, bassist Jason Viebrooks from Atheist, and guitarist Waldemar Sorychta from Chainsaw. Their first album, 'Power of Inner Strength,' came out that same year with the track '(Built To) Resist' as a standout.
They put out several more albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Manslaughter' in 1995, 'Phobia' in 1999, and 'Incorporated' in 2004. Schuldiner died from brain cancer in 2001, but the band continued with two final albums, 'The Oppressor' in 2005 and 'Nemesis' in 2006.
Their music often dealt with themes of resistance and social issues, heard in songs like 'Blood Of Saints' and 'Challenge.' The lineup included Stuart Carruthers at various points, though the core remained Schuldiner, Lombardo, Viebrooks, and Sorychta.
