Grupo ACABA formed in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul in 1985, with Cláudio José de Souza on vocals, Marcos Antônio de Souza on bass, Valdomiro de Souza on drums, and Antenor de Souza on keyboards. They came together around the music of the Pantanal wetlands where they lived.
Their 1990 debut album "Pantanal" included "Ciranda Pantaneira," a song that caught on nationally with its celebration of the Pantanal landscape. Other songs like "Kananciuê" and "Monções" followed in a similar vein, drawing from regional rhythms and themes.
