Grupo Acelerou formed in 1992 as a duo with Lourenço and Wesley. Their debut album came out in 1997, featuring the track "Vai Vendo Aí" that became popular in Brazil's sertanejo scene.
Their music sometimes drew criticism for lyrics and stage presence, but they kept performing with various musicians joining over time. Ricardo, Xande, and Rafael were among those who played with the group.
In 2003, two members died in a bus accident. The band continued after that, though their lineup kept shifting.
