Grupo Curupaco

Grupo Curupaco formed in the late 1960s in Salvador, Bahia, when a group of friends came together around their shared interest in music. They took their name from a mythical creature in Amazonian folklore, which suggested a connection to regional traditions from the start. The original lineup included Edson Pardim on lead vocals and guitar, Carlos Pinto on bass, João Bezerra on drums, João Rios on keyboards, and Carlos Santos on saxophone.

Their 1977 debut album, simply titled "Curupaco," contained the song "Corujinha," a ballad that became unexpectedly popular across Brazil. The track's straightforward lyrics and melodic appeal seemed to resonate with listeners, helping establish the group's presence. They followed that with albums like "O Sonho Não Acabou" in 1978 and "Canções de Amor" in 1979, which also featured songs such as "Quando Papai Vai Viajar."

Their music drew from Brazilian rhythms while incorporating some pop and rock elements, with lyrics that often dealt with everyday themes. They continued recording into the early 1980s with releases like "Coisa Linda" and "Som de Curupaco," maintaining a consistent output during that period.
