Grupo Eco do Pampa formed in 1989 in Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul, drawing from the gaucho traditions of the region. Led by vocalist and accordionist Léo Almeida, the group built a following with songs like 'Baile de Louco' and 'Cutuca Vai' that captured the energy of rural celebrations.
In 1994, the band's gaiteiro Neguinho died in a car accident, an event that shaped their work afterward. They recorded albums including 'Baile de Louco' in 1995 and 'Tá na Hora do Pampa' in 1997, mixing vanerão and chamamé rhythms with contemporary touches.
Other members over time included guitarists Mitto Almeida and Marcelo Almeida, bassist Gordo do Acordeon, and percussionist Marcelinho. Their music, heard in tracks like 'Fandangueiro Por Demais' and 'Quadro do Paraíso,' became a regular presence at festivals and rodeos across Brazil.
