Grupo El Tiempo formed in Barranquilla, Colombia in the early 2000s around brothers Héctor and Johanes Ortiz. Their sound builds on traditional cumbia rhythms, with the tambora drum and accordion giving tracks like 'A Mi Morena' and 'Este Sábado' their recognizable bounce. Lead singer Edisson 'Paloma' Ortiz handles most of the vocals.
In 2005, they released the album 'A Mi Morena,' whose title track drew some criticism for its lyrics and video. The group defended the song as reflecting everyday life. They've put out several other albums, including 'Mil Cumbias' in 2002 and 'Cumbia Sinfónica' in 2015.
The lineup has included Héctor Ortiz on tambora, Johanes Ortiz on accordion, Luis Díaz on bass, and Ramón Carmona on congas alongside Paloma Ortiz.
