Grupo Emcantar came together in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1980s. Their sound pulled from samba and bossa nova but also had room for jazz and rock touches. The band was led by vocalist Andreia Mazzini, with Fabio Fonseca on guitar, Marcelo D2 on bass, and Marcelo Yuka on drums.
In 1990, their single "Camaleão" became a national hit. The song's melody and lyrics caught people's attention and helped establish the group. They followed it with albums like "Brasil Sensual" that same year.
Their other well-known track, "Parangolé," shows the rhythmic foundation Marcelo D2 and Marcelo Yuka built. Andreia Mazzini's voice worked over Fabio Fonseca's guitar lines in a way that felt cohesive, even as they drew from different traditions.
