Grupo Encontro Marcado formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2005, starting with friends Reginaldo and Renato playing local bars. They eventually added Juninho on guitar, Zé Roberto on percussion, and Vinícius on bass. Their debut album came out in 2007, titled after what would become one of their most recognizable songs, 'Lágrimas Vão e Vem'.
That song, released in 2008, became particularly well-known for its straightforward take on heartbreak. Other tracks like 'Menina Mulher' and 'Ainda Existe Amor' followed a similar path of romantic themes set to Brazilian rhythms with pop touches. They put out several more albums over the next decade, including 'Saudade' in 2010 and 'Amor Maior' in 2013.
In 2009, founding member Reginaldo died in a car accident. The group continued afterward, releasing an acoustic album in 2016.
