Grupo Galatas formed in the early 1990s in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco. The band took its name from the New Testament's Book of Galatians, and its founding lineup included Wellington Virgulino on vocals, Carlinhos on bass, Adriano Aquino on drums, and Robson on guitar. They released their debut album 'Somos Galatas' in 1995.
Their 1997 album 'Virá Não Tardará' gave the band its breakout hit with the title track. Another well-known song from their catalog is 'Voce Mudou'.
In the years that followed, Grupo Galatas continued recording and touring. They worked with other Brazilian Christian artists like Aline Barros and Davi Sacer. The band's lineup has changed over time, with later members including Daniel on drums and Gabriel on keyboards.
