Grupo Gente Maneira formed in Rio de Janeiro during the 1980s. Their debut album came out in 1987 and included the song "Outra Pessoa," which became a hit. The group had five members: Pedro Bial sang lead, Sávio Araújo played guitar, Marcos Valle was on bass, Evinha Alves handled keyboards, and Wilson das Neves played drums.
They released several albums over the next decade, including Motown Surf in 1989, Brasilis in 1991, and Olhando os Céus in 1993. In 1999, they recorded a live album for MTV Brazil. Their music sometimes drew criticism from listeners who preferred a more traditional sound.
"Outra Pessoa" was a notable song for the group. The lyrics deal with love and change, and the track's popularity helped establish their presence in Brazilian music.
