Grupo Geração Sul formed in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 2001, with Ivo Hartmann on vocals and rhythm guitar, Renato Dorneles on lead guitar and vocals, and Edegar Silveira on bass. They started playing traditional gaucho music with a contemporary approach.
Their 2004 debut album 'Uma História de Amor' included the song 'Razão do Meu Viver,' which became a hit across Brazil. The track appears to have been their breakthrough moment.
They've released several albums since then, including 'Meu Coração Não Mente' in 2006, 'Só Dá Pra Ser Feliz' in 2008, and 'Tudo Novo de Novo' in 2019. Another of their songs, 'Rei do Buteco,' is among their most recognized tracks.
