Background notes

Archive material and source history

Grupo Klaz y Keroz came out of Mexico City in the early 1990s, led by vocalists Emmanuel Cervantes and Karen Rivera. Their debut album Para Siempre arrived in 1994, and one of its singles, No Te Pertenece, became a hit.

Some of their lyrics drew criticism, particularly a song called Jitomatazo that was accused of promoting violence against women. The band defended the work as reflecting real life in Mexico.

They kept recording through the 1990s, putting out albums like El Club de los Malditos in 1996 and La Venganza de los Malditos in 2000. The music shifted at times, touching on rock and electronic sounds while keeping a Mexican rhythmic foundation.
