Grupo Kurtição formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1995 with four friends: Márcio "Pardal" Xavier, Marcelo "Tico" Reis, Márcio "Marquinhos" Assumpção, and Reinaldo "Orelha" Barroso. They started playing rock and roll when that wasn't the mainstream path in Brazil.
Their 1997 debut album included "É Loucura," a song that caught on with Brazilian teenagers. It had a raw energy and lyrics about rebellion that connected with young listeners at the time.
They put out more albums after that, like "Ao Vivo no Circo Voador" in 1998 and "Tempero do Mundo" in 2001. Other songs people remember include "Demorou" and "Pra Ser Feliz."
