Grupo Moçambique formed in Mozambique in 1975, with Artur Sitawa on guitar, Francisco Mabjaia on bass, and Filipe Mukaba on drums. Their first album, "Timbila Muzimba," came out that same year. The band's sound mixed African rhythms with Portuguese melodies, a combination that sometimes drew criticism in the post-independence political climate.
In 1978, they released "Minha Formula de Vida," a song that became a hit in Mozambique. It's one of their best-known tracks, along with "Por Um Triz" and "Primeiro olhar." They kept recording through the early 1980s, putting out albums like "Muana-a-N'gungunhane" in 1978 and "Ngungunhane" in 1982.
Over time, the lineup changed. Lina Magaia sang lead vocals at points, and Delfim Chilundo played percussion. The group's music, with its particular blend of influences, remains part of Mozambique's musical landscape.
