Grupo Mojado formed in Monterrey in 1987. They built a following with regional Mexican music that balanced soulful ballads against more energetic rhythms. Their 1996 song "Piensa En Mí" became one of their best-known tracks.
In the late 1990s, the group faced accusations of having ties to drug cartels, which led to legal scrutiny. They continued recording through that period, putting out albums like "El Baile del Borracho" in 1999 and "Vida Nocturna" in 2003. Another popular song from their catalog is "Trapeaste Conmigo."
The current lineup includes Mario Quintero Lara on lead vocals, Abelardo "El Gabán" Vargas on accordion and vocals, Jesús "Chuy" Navarro on bass and vocals, Carlos Ramón Saúl on drums, and José "El Bronco" Cruz on guitar. They released albums into the 2010s, including "Evolucionando" in 2013.
