Grupo Musical Imagem formed in Salvador, Bahia in the early 1990s, led by vocalist Beto Jamaica. They signed with Som Livre in 1995 after building a following through live performances.
Their 1998 song "Qualquer Nome Pra Paixão" became a hit despite drawing some criticism for its lyrics about forbidden love. The band released several albums through the early 2000s, including "Quero Te Amar" in 1997 and "Volta Pra Mim" in 2000.
Other musicians who played with the group included guitarist Manno Góes and bassist Décio Cruz. Their music combined Brazilian rhythms with pop elements.
