Archive material and source history
Grupo Rennascer formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s, founded by brothers Jefferson and Robson Nascimento. They started playing in local churches and released their debut album 'Espírito Santo' in 1999. The record found an audience with its mix of gospel and contemporary R&B, and songs like 'Aquela Cruz' became staples in Brazilian churches.
In 2006, lead singer Jefferson Nascimento was arrested on drug possession charges. They've put out more than ten albums since, including 'Renovar' in 2002 and 'A Cruz' in 2013.
The group's lineup has mostly stayed in the family, with Jefferson on lead vocals, Robson on guitar and backing vocals, Juliana Nascimento on backing vocals, Douglas Nascimento on drums, and Felipe Nascimento on bass.
