Archive material and source history
Grupo Río is a Mexican regional music band that formed around the Medina Lizalde family. José Ángel Medina Lizalde sings lead, with his brothers Javier on accordion and Luis Fernando on keyboards. Honorio Herrón plays bass and Antonio "Toño" Alvarado is the drummer.
Their 2004 album "Lo Empiezo a Odiar" gave them their biggest hit with the title track. That song, along with others like "La Universidad" and "Todo estaba bien," helped build their following in regional Mexican music. They had been releasing albums since at least 1998's "Los Hijos del Pueblo."
In 2008, the band dealt with copyright infringement accusations. They've also experienced the loss of a former trumpeter. Through various challenges, they've continued making music, with albums like "El Rey de los Pueblos" appearing in 2010.
