Grupo Só Batidão came out of Rio de Janeiro's favelas in the late 1980s, mixing samba, pagode, and funk carioca. Their first album, 'Chega de Chorar' from 1991, gave them a hit with the title track. The group's lineup included vocalists Cacau, Marcão, and Diney, with Bigode on guitar, Pretinho on keyboard, and Nilson on drums.
They put out records steadily through the '90s and 2000s, like 'Só Batidão' in 1992, 'Tá Com Tudo' in 1994, and 'Samba, Pagode e Funk' in 1996. Other songs in their catalog include 'Seu Nome Nas Estrelas' and 'Vou Pra Balada'.
Their lyrics and performances drew criticism from some quarters, leading to radio bans and legal challenges. But they kept working, releasing 'Cheia de Malícia' in 2000 and 'Tá na Batida' in 2003, and marking twenty years with a 2011 album.
