Grupo Só Kurtição came together in Salvador, Bahia during the early 1990s, playing what's often called pagode baiano. Their song 'Fica Bem' became one of their early hits. The group featured Daniel Clemente on lead vocals, along with Robson Alves, Marcelo Timbó, and Marcio Ribeiro.
In 2001, the band faced significant public criticism over allegations of racism and homophobia. They took a break from performing and recording, then returned in 2003. After coming back, their music began to incorporate more pop and electronic elements alongside their earlier sound.
