Archive material and source history
Grupo Soanata formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1990s, with Gabriel Soares on vocals, Rafael Costa on guitar, Marcos Silva on bass, and Alex Oliveira on drums. Their debut album 'Soanata' came out in 2002 and did well, partly because of the song 'Deusa do Amor.' That track became something of a standard for them, a romantic samba-pop number that stuck around.
They put out a few more albums over the next several years, including 'Deusa do Amor' in 2004 and 'Alma Romântica' in 2006. Other songs like 'Minha Princesa' and 'Volta Pro Meu Mundo' kept to their style of straightforward romantic themes. In 2005, Soares was arrested on drug possession charges, which he denied. The band continued working after that.
