Gumes formed in the early 1990s with three members: Jose Luis Figueredo on vocals, Antonio Romero handling melodies and arrangements, and Andres Zapata on guitar. Their debut album 'Caramba' came out in 1994, followed by 'Bailando con Gumes' in 1996 and 'Entre dos mundos' in 1999.
Their song 'Caramba' became their most recognizable track, with a rhythm that caught on in Spanish pop circles. They also recorded 'Impossible' around the same period.
As a newer band at the time, they faced some skepticism from parts of the industry before building a following. Their music mixed traditional Spanish elements with contemporary pop arrangements.
