Gun Frontier formed in the mid-1990s with vocalist Akihito Morimoto. Their debut album 'Ame No Sanbika' came out in 1997, giving the band its first real foothold in Tokyo's underground rock scene. Morimoto's lyrics often dealt with heavy themes like depression and alienation, which drew both dedicated fans and some criticism from more conservative corners of Japanese culture.
In 2000, Morimoto left the band, and guitarist Shinpei Takahashi took over as the main creative force. They kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like '13' in 2004 and 'Syndrome' in 2007. The song 'Ame No Sanbika' remains their best-known track, but they also had other material like 'Style' in their catalog.
Gun Frontier's sound mixed hard rock with some atmospheric, post-punk touches. They never became a mainstream act, but they maintained a cult following through their raw, emotionally charged recordings and live shows.
