Editor's note

Guns N' Roses, the loud and unpredictable L.A. band

From 'Welcome to the Jungle' to the 'Use Your Illusion' era and a 2016 reunion.

For the raw early sound, 'Welcome to the Jungle' still hits hard. The later track '14 Years' shows the band stretching out as things got complicated.

Their 1987 debut 'Appetite for Destruction' gave rock a jolt with songs like 'Welcome to the Jungle'. The band's live shows were famously loud and unpredictable, and later albums like 'Use Your Illusion' captured the tension that eventually split the original lineup. The 2016 reunion tour brought Slash and Duff McKagan back to huge crowds.

They formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s and released 'Appetite for Destruction' in 1987. After 'Use Your Illusion' in 1991 and touring through 1993, the original lineup broke up, with Axl Rose continuing the name with other musicians. Slash and McKagan rejoined in 2016 for a reunion tour.

Guns N' Roses formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, with Axl Rose on vocals and Slash on guitar. Their 1987 debut album 'Appetite for Destruction' included songs like 'Welcome to the Jungle' and established their sound. The band's live shows were known for being loud and unpredictable.

They followed up with albums like 'Lies' in 1988 and the two-part 'Use Your Illusion' in 1991. During this period, lineup changes became frequent as tensions grew within the group. Songs like 'One In a Million' and '14 Years' appeared on these later releases.

After touring through 1993, the original lineup effectively broke up. Rose continued using the Guns N' Roses name with different musicians. In 2016, Slash and bassist Duff McKagan rejoined for a reunion tour that drew large crowds.
