H-George formed in 1984 in Stavanger, Norway, with guitarist Freddy Glesnes and drummer Stig Eldred. The song 'Blood of Death' became something of an anthem in the Norwegian black metal scene.
Their music was raw and aggressive, with distorted guitars and guttural vocals. Lyrics dealt with death, blasphemy, and the occult. The band went through several lineup changes over time, and Glesnes left in 1990 to form Vardøger. Other songs like 'Cruelty' and 'Neurotic' continued in their uncompromising style.
They kept releasing albums through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, with titles like 'The Insanity of Death' and 'Psychopath.' Their sound evolved somewhat, incorporating elements of industrial and gothic rock into their black metal foundation. The band's influence was felt on other Norwegian black metal acts, though their own story was marked by internal conflicts and challenges.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
