Archive material and source history
H. Merced was a salsa band that formed in New York City during the 1960s, led by vocalist Héctor "H." Merced. They released albums like "H. Merced: Salsa y Ritmo" in 1967 and "El Reloj No Perdona" in 1971, which included the song of the same name that became one of their best-known tracks. The band's sound featured piano work from Willie Torres and percussion from musicians like Roberto Roena on timbales.
In 1997, Héctor Merced was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which affected his ability to perform. His son, Héctor Jr., took over as lead vocalist around that time. The band's longtime pianist Willie Torres died in 2003, and they continued with other musicians filling in. They released an anniversary album in 1993 called "H. Merced: 25 Aniversario."
Their catalog includes songs like "Fin Del Mundo," "No Es Un Adiós," and "Un Angel Cayó." The band remained active through lineup changes and health challenges, with their music continuing to be played in salsa circles.
